Fuel Tank Storage Regulations:

Fuel storage is highly regulated within the UK. It is a legal requirement to store fuel in a safe, responsible and environmentally friendly way, since even a small spillage can devastate the local environment.

Domestic oil tank installations are covered in England and Wales by building regulations, but regional variations may apply.

Oil storage containers in excess of 3,500 litres capacity at domestic sites, and over 201 litres at commercial, industrial and institutional premises are required to have secondary containment since 1st September 2005. Storing agricultural fuel oil in England also must have secondary containment, and other regulations may apply.

Advice must always be sought when installing new oil tanks to ensure compliance with local regulations.
